When I grow up, I'll just raise Peonies....
This spring I planted 3 lovely but lonely peonies on our homestead -
Amidst construction, mounds of dirt, down trees and untamed yard
- the chaos that comes with finishing our home;
building a barn, finishing the addition and making this homestead ours;
I planted them with utmost care,
knowing that I may very well need to move them come next spring
for the next phase of construction -
Yet they stand tall and beautiful, petals too many to count;
I am in awe, amazement at such a flower -
for she blooms with grace wherever she is planted!
Every petal pulls me away from the mess that exists all around them on our property
Each individual petal reminds me
how little space is needed to find perfection, beauty and happiness!
Each flower, petal - calls us to live for the here and now;
So when I am grown up, gray and old,
I will grow peonies,
for generations to see that perfection is not in the everyday,
but rather that life has a secret like the peony -
To love the moment and teach all those behind us to step back -
admire every stem, leaf & petal;
For, in each bloom we let go of all the bad of our day, the negative of the world
and focus on the positive moments,
and focus on the positive moments,
albeit ever so small -
Remembering that just like the peony
we need so little to find peace in this life
and that in doing so
Remembering that just like the peony
we need so little to find peace in this life
and that in doing so
We live our life on purpose and teach our children to do the same!
P.S. - June is here and we are so busy - I'm quite sure you feel the same!
Our barn is being "erected" tomorrow.
School is nearly done, garden is a growin' right along with the weeds - note to self - weed soon;
& the new kitchen cabinets are coming next week!
Ahead - Horse camp and shows, fencing camp, sailing camp, tennis camp and football camp
each one ready to fill any and every empty week this summer - so much fun awaits!
I am blessed with a wonderful husband & kids that understand that the dishes aren't always done
and dinner may again be pasta (my goto quick meal)
After nearly 4 years in NH,
I have found a friend that makes me laugh whenever I have a tough day - She is like a sister!
I'll try to be here in this space when I can this summer -
But honestly it's summer
So I intend to live my life on purpose for my kids are growing older
(yet still need me sometimes, who knows next year, right?)
I couldn't be happier - life is full and great -
I feel like a peony - busting in bloom!
How about you?
Happy Summer - Erin
I love peonies. They have always been one of my favorite flowers. When we are finally "settled" and get around to landscaping I definitely want peonies somewhere. It's funny though. In a novel I read a while back, The Language of Flowers, the Victorian meaning of a peony flower was anger. This struck me as odd, since it's so widely used and is so fresh and pastel.
