After working the local Ski Swap Sale late into Friday night and Saturday well past noon the weekend's little sunny warm-up was just what we all needed after the past few weeks of passing the local "cold bug" around the family .
The kids decided a little fall archery tournament was in order. For Cole Archery is a regular sport (most of you know he's been doing recurve longbow with the Archery school spring and fall since he turned 7), but for Nikki (soon to be 7) it was something new. Her little arms were quite challenged to pull the bow back, but in the end she did quite nicely. Most importantly they had lost of fun with dad, and I even joined in the Archery competition. That said, George and Cole were the clear winners, but Nikki and I have plans in Spring to give the boys a run for their money :-)

Lesson with Dad
Trying it out for the first time
Nikki's Second Shot
George showing us all how it should be done
Cole shows Nikki how it's done
(in preparation for the future youth deer hunt - yes he recently acquired his first crossbow)
Cole with the target in his sight
Cole ready to launch
Yes, that's me loading my arrow, unfortunately my aim is not quite the same level as the guys...
it was really just the sun glare that prevented me from hitting the center, right...

Clean up before dinner
Intertwined with the all the Archery that was happening 'round here, we of course had much outdoor work to finish to prep the homestead for winter. Winterizing the boat (yes, the boat is out of our dock and at home on the trailer now - the 20 degree nights and 40 degree days are just to cold for boating now), more leaf raking and yard clean up, putting away the outdoor furniture and more... Winter has already shown her face a few times, dumping a pinch of snow on us here and there, but fall is fighting to stick around just a little longer.
Each year I am so lucky to have the ability to watch nature changing outside my door and I am more in tune with the gentle struggle for one season to hold on and another to take over... and with that I treasure the sunny days that we are blessed with during these long fall/winter seasons.
Here's to hoping your week is equally sunny (literally or figuratively :-)
