Vacation Day 10 - Wednesday Off, I Mean Snow Day

Tuesday it started snowing and it hasn't stopped since, they're calling for 18+ inches by tomorrow for those of us in the mountain areas.  This storm is dropping the heavy wet, packable snow (which we don't get alot of here in NH) - I'm so glad we broke down and bought the snow blower this winter!  This is unfortunately for Nikki the second "Wednesday day-off" on our break that it has snowed a bunch, so ice skating hasn't happened yet, the ponds are covered in lots of snow. We'll try for skating again next week I guess.

On the upside, the skiing was great yesterday, it snowed all day while we skied,  but I am a little tired after 6 straight days of skiing.  I skied Monday with Nikki's race team and Tuesday with Cole's  - wow those kids really ski fast and hard, they gave this mom quite a workout, but it was so fun.  I can't wait for skiing again tomorrow, over a foot of fresh powder and mild temps, it doesn't get much better than this, though, I must say, I'm glad to be home today and have a day off the mountain.  I feel behind in everything... so I should probably be getting to the laundry, dishes, cleaning, cooking, right?   But after I got an early start to the day, the laundry in the washer, breakfast cleaned up and the bread rising.... I couldn't resist, the outside was calling, the snow is oh so packable and the kids wanted help making some friends.....
Here is Nikki's "snowgirl skier" sporting some of her outgrown handknits
(all that time knitting and now the "snowgirl" gets them, well I guess they look cute on her :-)
Then a second friend was made, he apparently has a heart, but the kids decided against using the smoking pipe that came with our yard sale "snowman kit,"
saying "smoking is bad and not good for him," and then informing me, "it might be bad for his heart too!"
(Such honesty from kids - gotta love it)
Then the bigger snowman became quite jealous of the little one's ski goggles and decided he couldn't resist all that powder....
So naturally we let him borrow an old set of skis and poles :-)
What a great way to spend a snow day - our Snow Skiers are looking quite fashionable, don't you think?  Besides, I don't want to be going anywhere today - here's the view from the end of our driveway.... The plow trucks only come once a day and then at the end of the storm which is supposed to be late tonight or tomorrow (if the weather man is right).  Good thing George put some nice winter tires on my van because we're back to the mountain early tomorrow and I'm likely to hit several roads in route  that haven't seen a plow truck yet.
In the meantime I think the snow's going to keep piling up and sticking to everything -  it's getting heavier this afternoon -
At this rate we'll probably end up with 2 feet by Thursday morning, for sure
The power lines and trees are looking quite heavy - but it's so beautiful, isn't it?
Here's to hoping the power stays on.... but if not... I'll  have to let you in on the many reasons why we love our woodstoves here in New England.
For now,  the "Snow Skiers" are enjoying the stellar conditions on the front hill,
and my kids are off, as usual, for some fun in the fresh snow in the woods...

I'm heading inside to finish my Ravelympics Project - only 5 days left- yikes!
See you in March!
