Thursday night it seems we had an uninvited visitor here on the homestead. Now, we know that with all the woods that surrounds us, we're bound to have a Bear living around us, but to this point, we have respected each other's space peacefully. (In NH, bears generally stay away from people and houses as we have only Black Bears) Apparently, our local Bear has decided the food 25 feet from our front living room window was too tasty to resist...
Our wild bird feeders hang high on shepherd's hooks like this, so it's not easy to get them down, and they both have screw on lids, but still the Bear managed to get the lid off the green feeder without breaking it, however -
The copper feeder was apparently more of a challenge, so he decided to go wild on that one, taking it off by the hammock and crushing it to get to the tasty snack.
How are we sure it was a Bear? Well he left us a present after his midnight snack
Right in the front yard! Naughty little Bear - where are his manners?
We're hoping he doesn't visit us again soon, in the meantime the wild birds will have to scrounge up their own food so we don't encourage our uninvited visitor to make our yard his midnight snack shop.
Happy Weekending!
Oh my, that would worry my pants off to think of such a large beast sneaking around my yard. I thought it was bad enough that we get coyotes each night howling at us, but black bears would put me on edge. I hope he decided what you have wasn't satisfactory enough and will move on down the road.
ReplyDeleteJen, I don't like the coyotes around here either, but aside from walking in front of my car occasionally and howling, they have left us alone :-) We haven't seen the Bear back in our yard yet, but I am a little worried about the loads of berries coming in bloom, strawberries, raspberries, blueberries & blackberries. The first year we lived here we saw evidence that he was enjoying blackberries, but those are the furthest from the house, and there are too many to pick, so we had a sharing arrangement with the Bear. I hope he doesn't get any bolder this year :-)
