April Then and Now

It has been a crazy few weeks here at the homestead,
readying quarters for our new Chicks - arriving this Thursday (we hope :-);
me substituting at school for a whole week,
finalizing plans for a much needed addition (garage and 2nd bathroom included - finally!)
 and like every one of you life, kids, work & Taxes - such is April!

The good news is that Spring is beginning to show herself on the homestead,
 even if ever so slowly;
 So today I'll share with you visions of April 2010 and April 2011 -
April 3rd last year, 2010 - garden (cold weather crops) planted - George wearing shorts!
And Now, April 10th, 2011
Snow still 6+ inches deep on the raised beds
Planting will have to wait a few more weeks this year
But the sunniest spots are melting, warmer days and nights tell me Spring is coming soon - I'm hoping she arrives just in time for Easter, wouldn't that be nice?
Then again, I think Spring last year was a little too early
since April 28th, 2010 looked like this...
Yeah, I guess I'll wait this year for the real Spring to arrive :-)

Plus, this year's slow Spring = 3 gallons of maple syrup - the most we've ever made
We have enough Maple Syrup to last the year now so
George has moved onto to new syrup crafting - making Birch Syrup
New chicks, Maple Syrup, Birch Syrup  -
the transition from Winter to Spring, even if taking longer than I'd like,
 is proving to be quite nice!

  1. The weather is just so unpredictable. Sometimes our spring starts in March here. Most of the time it's at the end of April and really doesn't seem to get consistently warm until May. I'm like you and soooo sick of the snow. Bring on the sun and green grass please.
