It is hard to believe September is over already - where did it go? Fall is now in full color here and we're expecting our first dusting of SNOW tonight!!! Must bring in those pumpkins from the patch... Obviously, I've been too busy to notice September passing me by... Do you feel the same?
For the last September weekend I had the wonderful opportunity to travel to King Arthur Flour in Norwich, Vt. and take a class from a visiting Master French Baker, James MacGuire. What a beautiful drive to Vermont with all the mountains in full fall color. The class I took was traditional French Breakfast breads. I now officially know how to craft French croissants and brioche. I'll use the word craft - because I quickly discovered, despite my mastery of artisan bread, that croissants are a whole other world and while quite challenging due to the sheer amount of steps and physical work that go into crafting croissants- - I was able to master the techniques quickly and come away with some pretty nice looking baked goods. The class was the entire day Saturday and it was wonderful! J. MacGuire's recipe is the best I have ever seen. The best news is that I was able to do it again at home, even if the recipe is two full typed pages long and takes 2 days to make - here are the tasty results. They really are even better than they look - I assure you :-) Wish I could show you some more photos of us enjoying them, but they seem to have disappeared right after they cooled. Coming up in October - Pumpkins - oh how I love pumpkin everything, making Moussaka, more of Nikki riding, swim team meets, Fridays and more... Happy last day of September!
The beautiful view of fall from the pond that's just around the corner from our house
Wow, those look delicious. I'd ask you for the recipe, but I don't have the patience to spend 2 days on a baked good.
ReplyDeleteYou guys have already gotten snow?!? I'm not looking forward to this winter because I know it's going to be a nasty one (our summer was just too nice and mild to also be blessed with a mild winter).
By the way, forgot to mention before that I would love your apple butter recipe. Mike's mom brought some that her sister made, and one jar is certainly not enough (it's already gone). Thanks!

ReplyDeleteHere’s the link for the baby shoe pattern: http://www.michaelmillerfabrics.com/blog/cloth_shoe.pdf. I’ll probably make them for ladies having babies, too. Very easy to make once you get the hang of it. Can’t wait to get the apple butter recipe from you. Yum!
Thanks, Jen - look forward to making some cute little shoes - Apple butter recipe is in your inbox!
