Breaking from This Moment for Ten

This week I'm taking a break from my usual Friday post, This Moment, as it's just been one of those weeks - so full that you're not sure which direction you're headed next...  The kids have full activity schedules right now, Swimming, Archery, Riding, French & violin lessons (with their violin concert right around the corner) and I feel like I live in my car some days.  Every other spare moment seems to be full with the usual household tasks coupled with orthodontist appointments (thank goodness Cole's almost done with that - he's getting the braces off in June), caring for our new chicks and guineas, finishing their coop,  gardening and more.  The world around us turned green this week with life, all the trees in bloom and the weeds too.   In the rare quiet moments of the week I found myself venturing out to enjoy the beauty of nature, to admire Spring in all her glory.

My days ended after 2 am several nights in a row because I was busy crafting a surprise for Cole,
he turned 10 this week and really needed a new big boy quilt.
Crafting in a little house when the kids are up would have ruined the surprise of this special gift.
He has loved planes since he was 2 years old so his new quilt suits him perfectly.
I must admit 10 is so big, and a tough age for a mom to think about.
It's hard for me not to still see him like this

Cole climbing age 3 & fearless (2003), his love of planes rooted firmly - 2002 (age 2) and
Cole on George's shoulders with plane in hand  July 2003 -
Planes went everywhere in his little hands forever it seems...

But even if he's still my little boy, I know he's growing up....
I had to take a step back and a deep breath when he said at breakfast that morning,
"Mom, I've been on earth for a decade, isn't that cool?"
His day was simple but special; a quilt and pillowcase, new books, a WWII cypher key,
P-40 B warhawk model (he loves model building), and a little post sushi (Cole's favorite) dinner target shooting with all of us,

 his favorite dessert...
All topped off with testing out his new wheels (21 speed mountain bike)...
- he did remind me he only has 6 years until he gets real wheels  -
but I don't want to think about that just yet...
In my eyes, Cole described it perfectly - "Being 10 is pretty cool, Mom."
I had to agree :-)
See you back here next week - So much weekending to get to here!

  1. I wish we had an apple tree. I love applesauce and to make it.

Happy Birthday, Cole. I can't believe you are 10! I still remember the little 3-year-old in Beaufort, SC. The quilt turned out awesome. I'm sure Cole is beyond thrilled.
