Today

Today:

  I am cleaning up after our St. George's Day, which is my husband's birthday, celebration;

Feeling so thankful for all the rain we've received these last 2 days
& how the world around me suddenly is turning green,
but not enjoying that rain + 2 puppies = very muddy bamboo floors
or the allergies that come with all that blooming -
tending to my little girl (whose not so little anymore)
she is quite afflicted by all the pollen -
thankful for allergy meds, inhaler, herbal teas and soup to help her through the season;

Counting down the days until school is out for the year and
I don't have to drive the same route 4 times a day...

Finalizing the "big barn" plans - Our excavator will break ground next week;

Awaiting the arrival our cedar decking and a sink for the new kitchen
& dreaming of meals outside on our deck and a sink big enough to put all the dishes in :-)

After seeing Ginny's sweater here on Small Things
I have decided to take the plunge
and finally knit myself the February Lady sweater -
it will be my first adult sweater, I'm a little nervous and
It might take me until next February to finish it but I'm starting today!

Making dinner now, because my afternoons are filled with equestrian team practice,
swim team practices, music lessons, chess club and more...

Feeling like my life as Mom is returning to full speed again and thinking how good it all is!

On that mom note, have you seen this?

Slightly teary eyed,
I forget about the fact that I'm always doing laundry
and sometimes feel the days & weeks speed by, counted, it seems,
only by the packing and unpacking of sports bags filled with
 with skis, suits, goggles& flippers, horse tack, music books & instruments...
 Forget, that I basically live in my car from 2-7pm each day
and remember that driving my kids to practices and events all over the state
Really Matters
 even if they'll likely never be Olympians.....
These little things Matter, don't you agree?

Now go call your mom and say thanks,
then give yourself a pat on the back and a cookie
because YOU Matter :-)

  1. Well, happy belated birthday to George. I hope it was a good one for him. It sounds like you are going to be getting busy there with your next big project. Good luck to you!

    That sweater is really pretty. I'm sure you'll do a wonderful job. I've seen what you can do with your knitting needles:)

    Love that video. Definitely brings tears to the eyes.

  2. Erin,
    Our pigs are super easy once you have the pen set up. All they need is food, water, and a place to go when it rains. I feed them a 40% protien mix that I had the elevator in town make up, we live in a heavy farming area so it wasnt too hard to find an elevator to make me some. I did have to buy it by the ton but it will last a long time. The best thing about them is they eat EVERYTHING, table scraps, old stuff from the fridge, fruit and veggie peelings, garden stuff. They eat it all, I just like having them around so I dont feel bad about throwing food out. You know all those zuchinni that you miss and are the size of a barrel before you find them, toss them in, the pigs destroy them. Then in the late fall, take them to the butcher and have them processed or do it yourself. I made the pen extra big so they would have lots of room and not get crowded and start to stink. I bought a book about raising pigs and it was pretty good on answering questions but it is hard to go wrong with a pig since they eat everything, the 40% feed is just so they put on weight faster.
