In My New Kitchen...
-DISASTER-
We had a plumbing problem last week, yes in my new kitchen...
The plumber came to fix it, faulty part he said; but too late.
The carpenter came and affirmed what we both already knew;
Our beautiful Acacia wood floors were ruined -
The floors George and I spent days laying together late last August...
We spent the day ripping 400 sq. ft of floor back to their state 6 months ago - Advantek!
It was a long hard day, we were both mentally and physically exhausted -
But it had to be done;
Subfloor will need to dry for at least a month before we can lay new floors...
I did not cook dinner that night.
I went to bed VERY early,
A good thing, I needed to sleep, to clear my mind because I really just wanted to cry!
The next day I woke with determination that even in my "floorless" kitchen
Life Must Go On!
So I baked and cooked - bread, raspberry and blueberry hand pies and potato soup!
All the comfort food fixed us!
That night looking back on the events of these last days - I realized
My husband, my kids, needed me to show them our house
is more than just granite, stone, and floors -
It is our HOME - the place we gather, love and make memories -
I needed to be reminded of that too! Don't we all sometimes?
Someday, I know this will be a memory we all laugh about at holidays...
& I hope we will all remember the day after we ripped up all that beautiful flooring
how we enjoyed loads of yummy food around our kitchen island
Despite the missing floors :-)

Oh, no! I'm so sorry about your floors. That really must have been devastating especially if you had worked on them so hard the first time. You guys are such hard workers to re-do them so quickly. I can imagine they would have remained damaged for several months before we finally did something about it.
ReplyDeleteAt least the food you've made looks absolutely scrumptious. Enjoy it for me!
