January Flew Like the Wind

The last week of January has been filled with the not to be missed Annual January Thaw - and it's about time because the snow piles were really getting too tall to throw snow on top of!
Yes, us New Englanders are talking about the weather again!
A thaw the ducks that live 3 minutes walk down the street from our house (they winter at the inlet to the pond) seemed quite happy about,
despite that the pond still looks like this and probably will until early May...

A little indoor riding on Nikki's favorite pony, Sky, all fluffy and beautiful in her winter coat...

A trip to Vermont mid-week for a day of family skiing and a nice view too,
(George's hands are freezing in these pictures - you can't see him b/c he's skiing while taking photos without gloves on :-)

Finding a favorite trail like no other, don't you want to ski through a tunnel?
The kids thought it was "wicked fun."  (We skied this trail no less than 4 times that day)

And finally,  Old Man Winter leaving no doubt that the January Thaw is OVER - it's minus 1 right now and today's high is expected to reach a balmy 7 degrees, it's snowing and the wind is whipping 25 to 40 to match, making it feel like 20 below.
So once again it appears the powder will grace the mountains here, and with that we'll be off to our usual weekend of skiing, the kids off to team practice.  But, as I sit cozy by the warm woodstove this Friday morning and look out at winter in full force,
I can't help but think,
 January flew like the wind...
See you back in this space in February.

  1. We got a bit of a thaw last week, too. It was nice to have a little break from the frigid cold, but we're back to super cold temps. It's 3 degrees currently with a wind chill making it feel like -10. Yesterday the winds were so great (we get Lake Michigan winds) which made it feel like in the -20's. Ouch!

Looks like a fun days in Vermont skiing. That tunnel does look like a ton o' fun to ski through. My girls love tunnels (whenever we drive through them they always mention it) and would have loved that opportunity. Maybe one day.

    Stay warm!
