I am so happy to be moving up from my old point and shoot, a Casio Exilim EXZ-1000 which has been great, but lacks often in so many areas.
I also received three lenses with the camera body,
Tamron AF 18-270mm
F/3.5-6.3 Di-II LD Aspherical (IF) Macro Zoom Lens with Built In Motor for Nikon DSLR

My favorite parts about the camera so far are:
the auto focus feature(which makes me feel like I still have the same features of my P&S)
the HD Movie feature and the flip out screen.
I have so much to learn about this camera and about photography in general, Nikon School here I come, but I’m having fun with my New Nikon
and know it’s a gift I’ll be using everyday!

I also have my eye on a camera strap cover from Here
but that might have to wait for my birthday this summer,
or I could just get sewing and make one myself!
Big Nor'Easter rolling in tonight so I think it's
the perfect time for a new sewing project, don't you agree?

Wow, that is some gift! Especially with all the fancy lenses you got with the camera. Your husband definitely outdid himself. You will definitely see the quality in your photos skyrocket. I'd say a mandatory companion (if you don't already have it) is Photoshop. The Elements version is fairly affordable, and I'm assuming it may have even come with your camera (Canon includes it will all their SLRs).
ReplyDeleteI recently started shooting in RAW (I don't know what took me so long), and I use Lightroom for that. I just bought the student version since my girls are in school for only about $80. Shooting in RAW gives you much more control with exposure and white balance. LR is awesome because I've got it set up to automatically download my pictures when I hook up the camera to the computer. If I edit one picture and find that a group of photos is similar in exposure/wb, then I just sync the settings to edit all of the pictures at once. The LR presets are also awesome because you can see a sample of how the picture will look before you decide to use the preset. And, again you can sync several pictures if you use a preset one on picture. It's amazing how quickly I can edit a group of pictures. We're talking seconds where it used to take me at least an hour in PS. However, I still use PS for editing skin, head-swaps, crop, etc, and also my web design. I think it was starting to feel abandoned recently, so I luckily I had a bunch of web design work to do:)
Well, good luck with the new DSLR. Please feel free to hit me up for pointers or questions anytime.
